Wedding Vendor Tip Calculator

Wedding photographer tips range from $50–$300 for the lead photographer. For luxury weddings with packages over $5,000, a $150–$300 tip is appropriate. Second shooters should each receive $50–$150. Tips are not required if the photographer owns their business but are always appreciated for exceptional service.

Check your contract for a 'service charge' (18–22%). If not included, tip $20–$50 per server, $50–$100 for the head waiter, $50–$100 for the chef, and $20–$30 per bartender. For a luxury wedding, budget $500–$1,500 for catering staff gratuities.

Tipping a wedding planner is not required since they are paid a professional fee, but a tip of $100–$500 is a gracious gesture for exceptional service. For full-service planners on large weddings, $500–$1,000 is generous. A heartfelt written note and referral are equally valued.

Tip hair and makeup artists 15–20% of their service total. For a $700 bridal service, tip $105–$140. For luxury artists charging $500+ per person, 15% is the standard. Deliver tips in cash envelopes on the wedding day before services are completed.

Prepare cash tips in labeled envelopes before the wedding day. Most tips are given at the end of each vendor's service. Have your wedding planner, maid of honor, or a trusted family member distribute envelopes. For vendors paid at the end, tips can be included with the final payment.
